Title: Tourney, Day 1: My Side...
May 10, 2007 - 10:20 pm
Posted By: Max Griswald

Day one of the tourney was very exciting.  I stayed up late into the night due to a poor choice of starting time/day.  I called in to work on a Thursday because I hadn't slept and couldn't drive in the shape I was in.  The inital part was as I figured it would be.  I scouted the galaxy searching for people I could pod.  I got the first kill in the tourney, Cool Cat, from AB's team.  I also left small presents in a number of sectors, which account for an additional two deaths, Tom Bomb, also from AB's team, and TheCableGuy, a big mouth from Kilroy's team.  Slowing them down I call it.  In addition to that, I found AB's first two attempts at planets, which he had to abandon after I showed up.

Then I slept.

I woke up much later, and went to see what was going on.  Seems our team was doing poorly.  No one had even tried to snowball, except Nick Fury.  Say what you will about him, he is a loyal friend and a good player.  He'd started a couple planets and had a pretty decent ship by this time.  That's what prompted our change in strategies.

We  had several players online on MSN, so I got us together in one conversation, and said we needed to do something, before we only had one player in the top 8-9.  What we decided to do, using a template for startup that Nick, Nexus, and myself have been able to perfect, we used a combination of IGB Loans, and sharing a single ship.  This allowed us to increase our earnings over what we would have made seperately.  Good plan, right?  I say yes.  Others say no.  Alf will decide in the end.

Things got heated when our tactics were "discovered" by Big.  Suddenly the word "exploit" is being thrown around like confetti.  Words fly.  Some obscene words fly from Nick.  Some angry words fly toward me, about Nick.  I'm only human, I can't control a teammate, especially since I am not the team captain.  I do talk to Nick and he apologizes for the language.  Eventually, the federation police forces were called in, resulting in a lockdown of the entire galaxy until things could get settled.

As yet, the lockdown is still in place, and I have to get some sleep.  This will really hurt the players who have to work in the morning and didn't get a chance to really do anything before the lockdown.  Note to self, do not pick a day in the middle of the week in order to start the tournament.  Players in the USA who worked today were mostly unable to play at all due to the lockdown being issued right before most people returned home.
